CamMUN or Cambridge Model United Nations is an extracurricular where students represent different countries and debate a multitude of topics, simulating authentic United Nations committees.

It is an exciting opportunity to expand your political and historical understanding as well as a chance to improve debating skills, public speaking, and critical thinking.

Positions Available:

Chairs:
Chairs will moderate debates and oversee committee discussions. This will be an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills as well as enrich your understanding of foreign affairs.

Delegates:
Delegates represent different countries in a chosen committee and make speeches, debate, and prepare draft resolutions. Being a delegate will enhance your critical thinking and argumentative skills as well as a chance to make connections with like-minded people from all over the world.

Runners and Photographers:
Runners watch over debates and assist the chair by passing documents between delegates. It is a great chance to spectate over debates and enhance your political skills.

Photographers capture the moment of heated debate between delegates, to be remembered for the future.

How do such simulated UN debates work?

When a potential delegate signs up to an MUN they are assigned a country to represent. Together, delegates from the same country form a delegation. Each delegate from every delegation represents the country’s position in one committee.

Each committee is run by the Chair.

There are debates on various topics and delegates vote for or against a resolution.

By the end of the debates each committee draws up a final resolution and presents it at the General Assembly. These resolutions, coming from all the different committees, are voted on by everyone.
